How do I sign up?

To use our online booking system, you will need a current email address.

  1. Try to use a browser such as Firefox or Safari to view the booking system - the system is not yet optimised for all versions of Internet Explorer, Opera or Netscape.
  2. Use the “arrow” buttons to navigate to the correct week. The system automatically displays the current week first (the speed-date events are in Weeks 20 and 21).
  3. Choose your preferred day, and select the appropriate slot – i.e. sign up either as a Male participant (1) or as a Female participant (2).
  4. Available time slots are coloured green; if there are no places left for a given sex of participant, the slot will be coloured red.
    Place the cursor over the time slot you wish to book; when the cursor turns into a “hand” icon, you can click to select that slot.
  5. Then follow the instructions which the system sends you. You need to confirm the booking (via email) within a certain time, or your place will become available to others once again!
  6. The system will also give you instructions on what to do if you need to change or cancel a booking.
  7. Later, you will receive a second email which contains detailed instructions about the speed-date, and a link to an online pre-event questionnaire. Please fill out the questionnaire in advance – at the latest, 24 hr before the speed-date. Doing this will save you (and everyone else) time at the beginning of the speed-date. Less time on research and more time for dating!

Places are limited – and allocated on a first come first served basis! Please register for one evening only; the system will automatically cancel the second booking if you try to sign up for both events. For the same reason, please do not sign up if you have already participated in one of our previous speed-dates in 2008 or 2009.

Unable to book a place?

If there are no vacant places on your preferred day:

Check the booking system again a few days later: places may become available if someone cancels.

Put your name on the waiting list: if someone cannot attend at the last minute, you have a chance of taking part in the event!

Please do not try to sign up as a participant of the opposite sex! This is clearly not a good idea – you would prefer there to be enough partners of the opposite sex on the night, right? Plus we will automatically delete your booking if you do so…

 

Having difficulty booking?

Are you using a recent version of Firefox, Opera or Safari as the browser? The layout of the booking system pages may not be as clean in Internet Explorer or Netscape.

Cannot click on the links in the confirmation/cancellation emails from the system? Some email systems (e.g. Webmail) may not represent the URL as a clickable link. Try copying and pasting the link into the header of your browser window instead. Ignore the first line of text (this contains your email address). Starting with the second line of text, select only the part that starts with “http://…” – if this part of the text extends over 2 lines, make sure you select the entire text.
